Discussion:
RABF02 airing 2 (dedication)

So, the repeat of RABF02 (Homer Goes to Prep School) tonight included
a dedication to Don Payne, who died last week - it was shown before
the Gracie Films logo over a background of Lisa at the wall of plaques
(the wall, though not the still, being from LABF01). The music may
have faded out a bit early. Also, for some reason I didn't get the
episode in widescreen, so if anyone happens to have a nice capture of
it I'd love to get one.

Because I assume, now, that it won't ever be seen again. Nice way to
immortalize someone, isn't it? Pick the next thing that airs and hope
people see it that one time. I wouldn't be surprised if it ran again
with the next new episode, but either way, this is not the way
dedications are supposed to work and my mind is not changing on that.

If you really want to impart useful information, give the title of the
episode as well. No one except you and Don Del Grande memorizes the
production numbers. And perhaps Captain Infinity and Mr. Museum.

Better than not to have done it all, especially since no one has ever
heard of him.

No Mr. Wiseguy. You aptly named member of this ng. I know nothing about the episode numbers.

Captain infinity is not a real captain. I am not a real museum. But you are a wiseguy.

Does that mean Don is a mafia crime boss?

I am not actually the bane of an improper spelling of the word "nights".

Oh ATS how I've missed you.

Oh ATS how I've missed you.
And I am not a real flower. I am, however, an R Flowers.

Yes, ATS has held together thanks to a small, bitter core of survivors. I myself only occasionally drop in to take their respective pulses.

And even if a few people know the production number, no one could ever
be expected to know what "Homer Goes to Prep School" means. We need the
episode title, not that meaningless gibberish, man!

Yeesh.

Talking to Matt about this is like talking to a horse. A dead horse. A dead
horse that has been beaten with a dog that has bees in its mouth. Dead bees.

I suppose he was referring to LABF01 and not RABF02. It didn't seem as
important to note that, because you know the wall or you don't - but
it's "Take My Life, Please" - happy?

"You know the wall or you don't."
What is that even supposed to mean?

Many people don't know the titles but a hell of a lot more know the
titles or can identify the episode from the title than a bunch of
letters and numbers. Sure the production numbers have a meaning and a
use but if you want to let people know what you're talking about (and I
assume you do) you use either both the production number AND the title.
And if you only choose one use the title. Expecting people to know the
episode from the production number alone is ridiculous and rather
pompous ("Ooh I know what I'm talking about and I know you don't.")

I think you're reading more into this than you have to. All THAT
comment presupposes is that you read my original message, which refers
to the WALL of commemorative plaques. Is everything clear now? And to
further drill the meaning of my comment into clarity, if you don't
know what that wall of plaques is, the title of the episode is not
going to help. Even the general plot of it may be unlikely to shake
the memory loose. OK?

While I may get annoyed at the attitude I'm greeted with I'm also not
gonna be a jerk about it. So long...

You're the one with the attitude. You think you're being so scholarly
by talking in (production) code when anyone and his brother could look
up the code if he wanted. The fact is for the past 50+ years to this
day anyone referring to an episode of a TV series does so by mentioning
the title. If a person doesn't know the episode well enough to know by
the title he certainly won't know by the production code. Again, more
people would recognize the title than the production code. I'm talking
of the normal viewer here, not anal fanatics like you, Don Del Grande
(Is that a real name or did it come from a porn star?) and the guy who
insists on calling the series OFF (presuming that there is no other
family on TV we may like better). And again, I assume you want to
provide information to the group. Better information can be given by
the title. Sorry, this is a fact.

And no, I still don't know what the wall of plaques mean. I don't
generally watch reruns of episodes I've already seen and I certainly
don't have the time or inclination to continually watch 500+ episodes
that I've already seen. I'm a fan not a fanatic. But there would be a
better chance of my recognizing the episode from the title than from the
code which I would always have to look up to see what episode it
referred to.
