The most recent episode on this newsgroup is 36ABFO3, does that mean
season 36 episode 3?

03 (not the letter O), but yes and no... it is the third episode of
production season 36, but the second of that run to air, and the 9th
episode of air season 36 (which is how most people count). This is
actually only the second season in Simpsons history where the production
code prefix is intuitively understandable.

As it happens, a history and exploration of the code styles just got a
big update (with more in the works), so if you're really curious, check
it out. Simpsons-specific info is near the top.
